Turning breakthrough research into breakthrough companies
Some of Canada’s most promising climate technologies begin in university labs. But the path from research to commercialization is often where great ideas stall.
The NorthX University Call for Innovation helps bridge that gap by providing early-stage, non-dilutive funding to BC university ventures developing climate hard tech solutions with the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while creating economic opportunity.
Working alongside BC’s leading universities, we’re helping founders move beyond validation, strengthen their commercialization strategy, and take the next step toward building globally competitive climate hard tech companies.
Selected ventures may receive between $100,000 and $250,000 in non-dilutive funding to accelerate venture development and commercialization activities.
Why the University Call?
Commercializing climate hard tech takes more than a great idea. It requires time, capital, and the right support to transform research into real-world solutions.
Through the 2026 University Call for Innovation, NorthX partners with BC universities to identify and support the province’s most promising climate ventures before they are ready for traditional investment.
By investing early, we’re helping founders build companies that can strengthen BC’s economy, create high-value jobs and deliver meaningful climate impact.
Who should apply?
The University Call is open to ventures developing climate hard tech with strong commercialization potential that originated from a lab at a BC-based university.
