Carbonyx is on a mission to quietly store gigatons of CO₂ by transforming industrial waste and atmospheric carbon into advanced materials for industry. Founded in Vancouver BC, Carbonyx builds reactors that extract high value materials from widely-available waste, while turning atmospheric CO₂ into rock. This process decentralizes the production of the world’s most extracted compounds while inherently storing CO₂, delivering a climate strategy that is built to last.

The Problem

Carbon removal technologies are essential for achieving net zero. The IEA estimates that carbon removal must scale to 1 billion tons per annum to get there. Yet, most of these proposed solutions are prohibitively expensive, difficult to verify, and most critically, financially unsustainable. Nearly 90 percent of global carbon removal capacity today depends on volatile carbon credit markets, creating fragile business models that collapse when credit prices fall. The opportunity is clear: we need carbon storage solutions that are permanent, verifiable, and revenue-generating, not subsidized.

The Solution

Carbonyx is solving carbon removal’s biggest barriers: permanence and profitability.

Through a proprietary process, Carbonyx mineralizes captured CO₂ into stable carbonate rock, a form of geological storage that lasts millions of years. In tandem, this process generates valuable industrial by-products such as silica and calcium carbonate that serve industries like cement, coatings, and glass. The commercial value of these by-products supports a self-sustaining business, while carbon removal happens quietly in the background.

NorthX’s investment is helping Carbonyx take a major leap forward: moving from a lab-scale prototype to a system capable of producing commercially relevant quantities of carbon-negative materials. This milestone represents a critical transition from research to real-world impact. With NorthX’s support, Carbonyx is accelerating its path to commercialization. The funding will allow the team to engage directly with early buyers, validate product performance through third-party certification, and establish the foundations for revenue generation.

“Decarbonization cannot rely on temporary offsets. We need permanent carbon storage that pays for itself. Carbonyx does just that. We’re mineralizing CO₂ into stable rock while creating valuable materials for industry, turning waste into wealth. NorthX is helping us accelerate this transition from lab to large-scale deployment by providing the technical validation and business support we need to commercialize durable carbon removal in Canada.”
