Quantum zero boil-off LH2 delivery system
Sector: Transportation
Technology: Low Carbon Hydrogen
NorthX Backing: $500,000
Project Value: $1,840,000
Project Status: Active

The Problem

The adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source is hindered by inefficiencies in its storage and transport. Traditional liquid hydrogen technology loses over 50% of the hydrogen due to boil-off during fueling, resulting in significant economic and environmental costs. Vented hydrogen has a GHG impact 10 times that of CO2, making the current technology unsustainable for large-scale applications. This inefficiency is a key barrier to making hydrogen a viable, cost-effective energy solution, especially in sectors like transportation and remote power.

The Solution

Eliminating hydrogen loss during storage and transfers, enabling efficient refuelling for heavy transportation and remote applications.

NorthX’s funding will support Quantum Technology’s Zero Boil-Off Liquid Hydrogen Delivery System, which addresses this inefficiency by sub-cooling hydrogen below its boiling point and capturing any remaining boil-off to reliquefy it. This process eliminates hydrogen losses during storage and transfers, reducing both costs and environmental impact.

The system offers a modular, scalable solution for liquid hydrogen storage and distribution, enabling efficient refueling for heavy transportation and remote applications, while supporting the growth of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source.

”This project is not just about advancing technology; it’s about building a cleaner, more sustainable future for all of us. By eliminating hydrogen losses, we’re making green energy more accessible and impactful. The support from NorthX is deeply important, as it empowers us to bring this transformative solution to life, helping us take a meaningful step toward a world where clean energy is the norm, not the exception.”
