Carbonyx is on a mission to quietly store gigatons of CO₂ by transforming industrial waste and atmospheric carbon into advanced materials for industry. Founded in Vancouver BC, Carbonyx builds reactors that extract high value materials from widely-available waste, while turning atmospheric CO₂ into rock. This process decentralizes the production of the world’s most extracted compounds while inherently storing CO₂, delivering a climate strategy that is built to last.

The Problem

Industrial minerals like silica, carbonates, and metals are the backbone of modern society, and yet their production hinges on unseen costs related to mining, milling, and long-haul transport. In parallel, CO2 removal approaches like industrial mineralization generate these very same materials, but struggle to separate them into individual components that can be used in everyday applications.

The Solution

Embedding CDR into the materials that shape everyday life.

Carbonyx is using an innovative electrochemical mineralization approach that naturally separates products, including industrial minerals, into isolated, ready-to-use streams. This approach uses industrial waste as a feedstock, no mining required. Since this waste is widely available, this approach also bypasses the logistical challenges of transporting industrial minerals from the source to the end use. Carbonyx’s mission is to store gigatons of carbon dioxide using this approach. By transforming industrial waste and CO2 into valuable minerals, the company aims to scale carbon removal beyond carbon credits, integrating it into the materials that shape everyday life. NorthX has supported Carbonyx from day one, and with their continued support, Carbonyx will further advance their technology by building demonstration unit in British Columbia. This project is projected to capture and store its first tons of CO2, divert tons of concrete waste from landfill, and produce industrial minerals to support the local economy.

“This project is the difference between a bold idea in a lab and something with real commercial prospects. The hardest part of scaling any hardware innovation, especially those intended to operate at a massive scale, is taking that first leap in production capacity. It is a period that is defined by learnings, failures, solutions, and breakthroughs. With NorthX’s support, we aren’t navigating that journey alone. We’re gaining a partner that brings expertise, collaboration, and a shared commitment to our success. If we’re serious about addressing climate change, it will take organizations willing to back breakthrough technologies and the teams building them. That’s exactly what NorthX is doing, and we’re proud to have them alongside us!”
