NULIFE GreenTech is a Saskatoon-based clean-tech company founded in 2016. NULIFE’s patented Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) technology transforms food processing waste and underutilized agricultural residues into sustainable bio-oil for Carbon Removal. The company was created to provide practical solutions for managing organic waste while contributing to permanent carbon removal. By working with food processing and agricultural industries, NULIFE is helping to turn underutilized residues into durable carbon storage, supporting Canada’s transition to a lower-carbon economy.

The Problem

Every year, billions of tonnes of agricultural and forestry residues are generated globally. Instead of being utilized to productive ends, most wind up being burned, landfilled, or left to decompose—all of which release CO₂ and methane back into the atmosphere. That’s unsustainable and it’s a lost economic opportunity. At the same time, the world must scale to billions of tonnes of carbon removal by 2050 to meet climate targets, creating global demand for waste-to-carbon-removal pathways, like bio-oil sequestration, that needs to be met.

The Solution

Transforming waste biomass into bio-oil for permanent carbon removal.

NULIFE is responding to this global demand by transforming waste biomass into bio-oil, a stable carbon-rich liquid that can be permanently sequestered in underground reservoirs such as depleted oil fields and salt caverns. By doing so, NULIFE prevents waste biomass from decomposing or being burned, turning an emissions liability into durable carbon storage.

NULIFE’s approach leverages existing oil & gas infrastructure and regulatory frameworks in Canada, enabling cost-effective scale-up. At the same time, NULIFE provides feedstock suppliers with a reliable, sustainable outlet for their residues, reducing waste-management costs. This dual value proposition—solving disposal challenges for suppliers and delivering permanent CDR for buyers—positions NULIFE to accelerate carbon removal today and grow into a global-scale solution.

NorthX’s investment will support the commissioning of NULIFE’s first commercial Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) module. This funding will enable the company to establish its supply chain, optimize system performance, and operate the commercial HTL module 24/7—laying the groundwork for commercial expansion and risk reduction. With NorthX’s support, NULIFE will be positioned to deliver more carbon dioxide removals (CDRs) to market, faster—accelerating emissions reduction at scale
