The Problem
Helicopters are one of the most important methods of fighting wildfires from the air; however, most of them do not come equipped with computing technology or advanced sensors to help crews do their job more effectively. Leveraging AI platforms can help better understand and predict fire behaviour while improving efficacy of different attack techniques. With thousands of wildfires in Canada alone, and each wildfire emitting up to 2,600 tons of CO2 per km2, any improvement in the ability to stop wildfire spread can have a major impact on CO2 emissions.
The Solution
Supercharging firefighting helicopters with advanced AI and sensor technology to combat wildfires.
NorthX funding will assist Voxelis in retrofitting the civil helicopter fleet with the latest in AI and sensor technology to help firefighting crews put out wildfires faster and consequently reduce CO2 emissions, while providing new data to help predict, detect, suppress, and understand wildfires and wildfire suppression techniques to enable and accelerate decision making for wildfire behaviour analysis and planning.
