NorthX is on the hunt for climate hard tech solutions that can drive industrial decarbonization and deliver economic benefits for BC and Canada. We are now accepting applications on a continuous, rolling basis.
Why a continuous intake?
NorthX has historically supported companies through structured Calls for Innovation focused on specific challenge areas, including wildfire technology, carbon dioxide removal, and industrial decarbonization. Structured calls work well, but company readiness and call timelines don’t always align with company needs. A continuous intake ensures NorthX can evaluate compelling solutions as they emerge, regardless of when a formal call is open.
Our mandate remains unchanged: to reduce GHG emissions and drive economic benefits for BC and Canada. We will continue to target the following hard tech sectors that help us deliver against this mandate including, but not limited to:
- Energy storage and grid capacity technologies
- Industrial decarbonization
- Clean fuels
- Wildfire prevention, detection and response
- Adaptation tech
Eligibility
- NorthX will fund Canadian companies advancing greenhouse gas reduction and removal innovations, with clear commercialization pathways and economic benefits. Preference will be given to those demonstrating the greatest impact in BC and contributing across Canada.
- NorthX will not fund standalone studies, research projects, software or digital solutions.
Timeline
NorthX will accept expressions of interest (EOI) on a continuous basis. Companies may submit applications at any time through the NorthX portal. The evaluation process follows three stages:
- Stage 1 EOI review: proponents will be notified within 30 days of submission whether they are invited to advance to Stage 2
- Detailed proposal: proponents invited to Stage 2 will have up to 30 days to submit a detailed proposal
- Due diligence and decision: NorthX aims to communicate funding decisions within 60 to 90 days of receiving a detailed proposal, subject to due diligence and the information provided.
Those approved will sign project funding agreements and receive non-dilutive, milestone-based reimbursement funding from NorthX.
