Our story

NorthX Climate Tech, (formerly known as the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy), is a catalyst for climate action, funding the climate hard tech solutions that transform industries and build lasting prosperity.

Rooted in British Columbia but global in vision, we unite visionaries, investors, industry, and partners to scale technologies that drive deep decarbonization and economic growth for Canada. Like the “X” on a map, we pinpoint that pivotal moment when potential is immense, but capital is scarce, that place where local strengths become global solutions.

Our why

While some ideas remain ideas, others transform everything. At NorthX, we exist because climate hard tech faces a crucial funding gap between promising concept and commercial reality. We do this not only to cut emissions but to create lasting prosperity for Canada, building an economy that thrives by solving the world’s most pressing climate challenges.

Our Vision

A Canada where BC’s climate tech innovation builds our prosperity and a decarbonized world.

Our Mission

Empowering climate tech innovators with the resources and networks to build a world-leading sector, reshape industries, and create enduring prosperity in Canada.

Our future

We’re broadening our focus while deepening our commitment to climate hard tech. Moving beyond traditional funding models, we deliver catalytic forms of investment to fill market gaps and sustain our mission. We see a future where BC’s climate tech leadership powers Canada’s prosperity and drives a decarbonized world.

Our impact

Since our founding, we’ve supported 65 projects, helped create more than 800 jobs, and accelerated breakthroughs that drive decarbonization at home and abroad. We’ve filled critical funding gaps; our investments extending beyond dollars to include strengthening Canada’s climate tech ecosystem and accelerating the path to market for technologies that matter.
